From now through March 2009, students can enter a new national competition created to find green solutions. With your mentorship, budding greenies can learn how to become agents of change, and score some sweet prizes for stepping up with their eco-friendly ideas.
The Siemens foundation, Discovery Education, and the National Science Teachers Association have come together as partners for the We Can Change the World Challenge. Under the supervision of a teacher or other interested adult guide (like you!), teams of 2 or 3 middle school students are asked to identify an environmental issue in their community, and research and create a replicable eco-friendly solution. To educate and empower kids to go green this totally web-based challenge, Discovery Education is offering fun, youth-friendly, curriculum tools like virtual interactive labs, online journals, eco-games and quizzes, and lots of other awesome online Challenge resources.
Any and all student teams who enter will receive prizes just for giving it a shot, and the top teams will win cash, teacher education materials, and totally cool and unique "Discovery Experience" trips. The grand prize-winning team will get even more goodies, including an appearance on Planet Green television, and a once-in-a-lifetime Discovery Adventure Trip, hosted by a Discovery TV personality.
For more about the project, plus all the info you need to lead a team to victory, check out the Getting Started page at the We Can Change The World Challenge website.
