READ MORE ABOUT:
You can learn how to do just about anything from the Internet, from tweezing your eyebrows to playing the guitar. But with so many videos, tutorials, tips, tricks, and guides out there, finding one that's actually reliable—and easy to understand—sometimes requires a lesson all its own. That's where 5min.com comes in: the site is dedicated to teaching people how to do, well, whatever they’re trying to do with instructional videos that are short, snappy, and easy to follow (and all in about—you guessed it!—five minutes). Doing things yourself is a good green practice, usually saving energy, materials, time and transport (read carbon emissions).
How to Use 5min.com
The videos are split up by category; traditional collections include how-tos on art, fashion, food, and sports, while more abstract topics—like extreme, parenting, spiritual, and life tips—get their due as well. Trying to teach a skill? Anyone can upload a video, but page views from site users send the best ones to the top of the pile (so it wouldn't hurt to pay attention to your production values). Trying to learn? Search by category, keyword, page views, number of comments, or uploading date. Think you know everything? Here's a random sampling of video topics from the homepage last week: Battlefield 2142 multiplayer game play, honey deuce cocktail recipes, storing leftover paint, softball drills, fire safety, chair tennis, Lamaze, algebra, yellow journalism, and playing the blues. You really will learn something new every day—and without spending a ton of time or wasting a lot of energy.
