Not so long ago, I had announced the Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge, the first and only national K-12 curriculum focused on sustainability.
Now, starting today, U.S. middle schoolers have the chance to become environmental change agents. If your little green goblin is interested in taking on the green challenge, here's how they can get started:
- Finding a fellow eco-friend or two to form a group with, along with a supportive teacher or adult supervisor.
- Identifying an environmental problem or issue in their community and researching the problem using scientific investigation.
- Finding a replicable solution to the identified eco-issue.
Though every green parent and teacher would hope that material encouragement wasn't needed for such a deeply fulfilling and rewarding experience such as this, the challenge is awarding over $1 million in prizes including savings bonds, an appearance on Planet Green, Discovery Adventure Trips, flip cameras and more.
The teachers and mentors who generously donate their time and energy to the challenge wouldn't walk home empty handed either.
