Paper may be a renewable resource, but it isn't free. The construction of paper requires the sacrifice of many trees. We need trees to breathe, but we need paper to store information in pamphlet and notepad form. This is a bona-fide conundrum. What can be done?
A new type of paper steps forward like a hero emerging from a gray mist. This paper isn't made of trees. It's made from the waste products of sugar cane farming. These waste products would usually be burned as fuel, contributing to greenhouse emissions, but their usefulness as source of paper can put a stop to that.
Here are the advantages of sugar cane paper:
- Paper made from sugar cane does not contribute to treelessness.
- It biodegrades faster than regular paper.
- It is cleaner to make than run-of-the-mill paper.
- It is recyclable, and it can be recycled with your paper made from trees.
- Popular with origami artists.
Paper made from trees biodegrades slower. This can be useful if you want your pieces of paper to stay around for a long, long time. Other than that, there aren’t many drawbacks to sugar cane paper.
Purchase sugar cane paper instead of buying regular paper. Write your local retailers. Ask them to carry sugar cane paper. Create an economic demand for paper made from agricultural waste. Most companies will be more than happy to supply.
