Business meetings can be extremely wasteful. My stomach always turns at the sight of huge stacks of paper printed on one side and handed out to each individual employee to be thrown away after the meeting. A lot of this waste can easily be avoided saving your boss, or if you're self employed you, tons of money.
Give the planet a break by planning a greener business meeting:
- Use PowerPoint instead of passing out tons of paper.
Employees can take notes on the information that is most applicable to them. This way, it's not only better for the environment but it keeps staff engaged. - Serve a greener lunch.
Lunch and learn sessions are a great way to lure employees into a meeting, but serving tons of prepackaged and overly processed junk is no way to treat your staff. Serve organic snacks and skip all the unnecessary packaging that comes with individually packaged chips, cookies, and bottled water. - Telecommute.
Don't fly or drive people in if it's not completely necessary. Thanks to the internet employees can follow along totally virtually. Technology has come a long way and it's amazing how realistic Webinars can be. - Skip the trinkets.
I know how much companies love to stick their logo on just about everything, but the fact of the matter is tablets of paper, paper weights, and air fresheners with your logo on them are just a waste of money and a burden on the environment. So save your marketing money for the tools that really make a difference like a good Web site. - Be efficient.
Get the meeting done in one day. Don't waste time and money by making everyone come back another day.
