We can’t emphasize enough the importance of our precious natural resource, water. It’s exactly why TreeHugger is focusing on Peak Water all month, any why in August we’ll be rolling out our exciting Blue August feature.

It seems like Matt Damon’s humanitarian efforts are also behind the great big blue—with a focus on sourcing clean drinking water to communities and countries in need. A staggering 884 million people in total!

But even with all of his celebrity do-goodness and good looks, Damon can’t do it alone. He’s asking us to sign a petition, urging our senators to sponsor the Durbin-Corker Water for the World Act of 2009, which if it passes, would increase access to clean water and sanitation by 2015. A pretty positive and momentous step in the right direction according to Global Water President Paul Faeth, interviewed by Matt over at TreeHugger.
