You may know him as the guy with the acoustic guitar who did the soundtrack for the "Curious George" film.
Soft-rocker Jack Johnson also is among a number of musicians who are donating 1% of their sales to environmental causes. It's part of the 1% For The Planet campaign.
The 1% organization is a growing global movement of more than 1,200 companies (and artists) who donate 1% of their sales to more than 1,800 environmental organizations.
Johnson became the 50th member of 1% in 2004. The next year, he put the 1% logo on a CD called "In Between Dreams."
U.S. nonprofits that receive money from 1% include the Apollo Alliance, Environmental Working Group, Green For All, Grist Magazine and the Natural Resources Defense Council.
Johnson screens a short film on the 1% campaign at his concerts, using the stage as a bully pulpit for Mother Earth.
So what can you do? Take a look at the nonprofits that belong to 1%. They're certified by the group, which is run by a board of directors and requires money-receiving organizations to have an environmental focus.
You can also look for artists that display the 1% logo. They include Jackson Browne and indie pop band The Submarines, the latter of which you may recognize from the soundtracks to TV shows like Nip/Tuck, Weeds and Grey's Anatomy.
