OK, you’re guilty. You bought another bottle of water even though you swore them off as one of your New Year’s resolutions—for the last three years.

Before you slink away in green remorse, there’s a cool contest going on that not only has the potential of redeeming your pesky plastic habit—but can also score you a cool prizes in the process. It’s called Keep the Bottle and it’s happening over at Instructables.

The nifty DIY site has teamed up with Tap’dNY, the organization nudging New Yorkers to quench their thirst with waste-free local tap water instead of wasteful, bodega-bought bottled water.

Transform a plastic bottle into something practical, artistic or just plain funny and you might walk away with a solar-powered backpack from Voltaic, refillable Tap’dNY Sigg bottles, Intructables t-shirts and more.

Need some ideas? How about a plastic bottle bird feeder? Or a pet food scoop?

Pick up a discarded plastic bottle fast! The contest ends February 1, 2009. ::Instructables
