Every day, it seems as though more people - celebrities included, as we see on Hollywood Green, are finding ways to do their part with helping to better our environment. Many people are seeking out eco-friendly goods to purchase as replacements for their not so eco friendly items. But who is selling? If you have an idea for an eco friendly product you'd like to market and sell, getting it done is easier than ever today. Just like any other business, it can be rough in the beginning. However, if you squeeze the internet for all its worth in the realm of e-commerce, you could find yourself playing an active role in the bettering of this planet and making a pretty penny doing it, too. Here are some tips for starting your own eco business online.
- KNOW YOUR PRODUCT. Do your research and know your product inside and out. You should be well aware of who your competitors are, what they're doing, the prices they're offering, etc.
- CREATE YOUR NAME. A company's name, even if it is 'only' online, is very important. Think of something catchy - something that would grab your own attention if you heard it.
- GET YOUR WEB SITE/URL. URLs are cheaper today than ever and hosting isn't too bad, either! You can set up a store through Ebay or install a store into your site through hosting. You may need the help of a tech guy for this, but it will be worth it in the long run.
- MAKE YOUR WEB SITE. Make your web site beautiful, but simple. Most people gauge how professional a business is based on their web site, so if you need to hire a designer, do it! The site should be clean cut and user friendly.
- MARKET YOURSELF. Through sites like Ebay, Myspace, YouTube, etc., self-marketing and advertising possibilities these days are incalculable. Take advantage of this! Invest your time in getting your name out there and you will benefit in the end.
- CONSIDER YOUR PROFITS. Do you want to keep all of your profits? You're certainly entitled to if you want to, however, keep this in mind: Many people interested in purchasing green items are also interested in helping multiple causes across the globe. If a portion of your profits are donated to a charity, you may not only have a stronger appeal to potential buyers, but you'll also contribute in making an even larger difference.
Most importantly, make sure your business IS actually eco friendly! From the materials you use for your products to shipping methods, it's best if your business is eco friendly all around. Here are some tips:
- PACKAGING. There are some companies out there offering just about every packaging need you can imagine in an eco friendly form. Howard Packaging is just one of them. Make sure you do some research and use companies like these in order to get your goods out.
- MATERIALS. Be as aware as you possibly can of the kind of materials you are using. In order to make your products fully eco friendly, make sure you evaluate every component involved that you can.
- PAYMENT. Encourage payment via PayPal and credit cards online. This will ultimately reduce the waste of paper in checks, money orders, and envelopes.
Doing your part as a green merchant does not have to be difficult. On top of that, we want to see as many green products out there on the market. Why? Well, it's simple. The more accessible green products are, the more likely the masses will be to purchase them. So if you've got an idea for a product, why not launch it?
