Annoyed at the number of White and Yellow Pages books that just kept showing up, YellowPagesGoesGreen.org was started by a student in Liberty, Missouri, with the goal of starting a national movement to solicit the industry to stop the automatic, unsolicited delivery of the books. With over 500 million of these directories printed every year, they've got a big job to do.
The movement is not intended to stop the use of the ubiquitous directories, but to eliminate the unsolicited delivery of the books, sort of like the National Do Not Call registry. The big books of numbers are surprising draws on resources and energy; the 500 million books require 19 million trees to be harvested and 3.2 billion kilowatts of energy to be used. Though they can be recycled via sites found at earth911.org, wouldn't it be easier to just not get one if you don't want it? Learn more from ::YellowPagesGoesGreen.org
