Perhaps you just can't imagine your brother-in-law giving up his steak or his SUV or his climate change denial, but as the esteemed political philosopher Rocky Balboa once opined:

"I guess what I'm trying to say, is that if I can change, and you can change, everybody can change."

Question: Could someone grow up as the heir to a fortune made from selling animal products, swim in an ice-cream-cone-shaped swimming pool, but somehow become the most influential vegan spokesperson the planet?

Answer: Certainly.

Question: Could another person volunteer to be part of the world's worst pollution machine, follow orders that most of the humans on the planet perceived as immoral, yet find his way to an epiphany of epic proportions?

Answer: Absolutely.

As Howard Zinn warned:

No human being should be written off, no change in thinking deemed impossible.

Here's to making the impossible happen...

6 Inspirational Stories of Personal Change

1. Howard Lyman

A Montana cattle rancher turned plant eater, Lyman is now an intelligent and charismatic vegan spokesperson.

2. Brandon Neely

A US soldier who was posted to Guantanamo at the age of 22, Neely bought the line that those under his watch were "the most evil men on Earth." Eventually, he came to realize that he was "basically just putting innocent people in cages" and this led to him connecting to two former prisoners via Facebook and then in person.

3. Arianna Huffington

She once supported Newt Gingrich's revolution and Bob Dole's candidacy for president in 1996 and wrote several articles for National Review. Today, she runs the popular lefty blog, The Huffington Post.

4. Elwin Wilson
"Nearly half a century ago," explains ABC News, "Elwin Wilson and John Lewis met under a veil of violence and race-inspired hate." White supremacist Wilson attacked Lewis, a black civil rights activist who has gone to become a U.S. representative from Georgia. In early 2009, having carried the guilt of his racism for decades, Wilson publicly renounced his past and apologized to Lewis on national television.

5. John Robbins

Robbins likes to say he was born "into the heart of the Great American Food Machine," but he turned his back on his family's Baskin-Robbins fortune to spread the word about veganism and explain how the purveyors of that machine "don't want you to know how the animals have lived whose flesh, milk, and eggs end up in your body."

6. Ramsey Clark

He went from being United States Attorney General during the Lyndon Johnson administration to one of the most high profile critics of America's foreign policy.

Remember: It's not about whether you agree or disagree with the stances taken by the above individuals, it's about finding inspiration in their willingness to take a long hard in the mirror and change.
