3 Eco Friendly Ways to Print a Manuscript

I recently had to print a manuscript. I wanted to avoid this as much as possible because I didn't want to use up the amount of paper it was going to require, but at the end of the day, I couldn't avoid it. It's very difficult to try to get a manuscript for a book together without being able to actually feel and flip the pages. Virtual pages can only go so far in helping you understand how a book should feel when it is read. Since I needed to do this, regardless of what I really wanted to do, I did it as greenly as I could and here are my follow-up tips for you:

  1. Use recycled paper. My advice is to print your first draft on the back of paper you have already used (just put the paper in the printer upside down). Once you have gone through and edited that copy completely, then place recycled paper from the store (or homemade if you can swing it), in the printer. Being eco-conscious these days is luckily becoming more popular and I think that printing your manuscript on recycled paper will impress those who read it.

  2. Edit carefully. Before you press print on even your first draft, make sure that you've done all of the editing you can on your computer. The more you can perfect it before pressing print, the less resources you will have to use.

  3. Ask if you can submit a virtual copy. Although you may need to print off the manuscript in order to get a feel for how you want to arrange it, you can still request to send a virtual copy of it and save trees all around.

This should be an exciting process! (It was for me!) Just make sure you don't produce unnecessary waste during the process.
