If you're one of the lucky so-and-sos who get to work from their home, then you don’t have to worry about carpooling, mass transit or biking to work. You get to sit around your house in your jammies and correlate data, post blogs or code computer programs.
The only thing that you've got to worry about is where to locate your home office. If you are lucky enough to have a spare room, then your choice is pretty obvious. But even if you do have some extra quarters, there are still some things you should know.
If you live in an apartment or small house, your instincts might convince you to find some out-of-the-way corner to locate your desk and computer. I'll tell you right now that this is bad. It's bad for your own morale, to be shoved into a dark corner for 8 hours a day and it's bad for energy efficiency.
Where to Locate Your Home Office
- Computers
No modern-day home office would be complete without a computer. First thing, you'll need to place your computer in a clean, well-ventilated area. Your computer will run better and more efficiently if it is kept cool. Proper ventilation ain't so bad for your health either. - Lighting
The other factor you'll want to consider is lighting. You'll want to work in an area that has plenty of natural light. Obviously, you'll reduce your light bill, but you'll also be providing yourself with an uplifting work environment.
Follow these two directions, and no matter where you decide to locate your home office, you'll increase productivity and morale while decreasing your energy usage.
