We are not consulting Nancy Reagan on this one. Rather, it's our friend Jenn from Tiny Choices who explains: "The next time you're offered something you really don't need, and which would very likely end up in the trash bin, just say 'No, thanks.'"
For example:
- Here's a napkin for your drink… "No, thanks!"
- Here's a bag for your toothpicks… "No, thanks!"
- Here's a free sample of megahold hair gel… "No, thanks!"
- Here's a flyer for the new burger joint… "No, thanks!"
Sez Jenn: "If we don't take it, then we don't have to throw it out!"
Over at TreeHugger.com, they like to just say no to bags: "The one thing that everyone worldwide can do to help reduce our ecological footprint, is to use a reusable bag whenever we shop for anything. There are movements across the States (and the world) for reusing bags for groceries, but that's it. By using our own bags every time, we are being environmentally responsible. Disposable bags present major ecological problems: drilling for oil and natural gas, deforestation, pollution, over crowding of landfills, litter, and harming wildlife."
As any Buddhist can tell you, it's all about "concentrated awareness of one's thoughts, actions or motivations." In greener terms, it might be best described as recognizing and accepting accountability. Just say no...
