The great Will Rogers once said: "Too many people spend money they haven't earned, to buy things they don't want, to impress people they don't like." Will Rogers, green comrades, was way frucool...as in the new "frugal is cool" movement.

"Frucool's not about a penny-pinching or Scrooge mentality," writes . "It's about unearthing ideas, things and stuff we can all do that saves pounds and helps people and the planet. And is cool. Frucool."

Frucool, says Gillespie, involves "controlling personal debt, buying things we really need, things that last or make a real difference to the lives of the folk that made or grew them."

To get you started on your frucool trip, Collin Dunn of TreeHugger.com offers some tips, e.g. hang your laundry out to dry, eat more veggies (and much less meat or no meat), set your thermostat wisely, and make your own all-purpose cleaner.

Think used, local, swap, barter, community, and yeah: think frucool.
