Because sometimes changing the world is less about action and more about thought.

With this weekend marking one month since New Year’s Day, it might be a good time to check-in and see if your green resolution(s) are still firm in place and in progress. Did you start that compost bin that you had promised yourself? Are you remembering to take shorter showers? Have you swapped in a few weekly meat-free meals into your diet?

In the same spirit of keeping eco-resolutions, Resurgence Magazine checked in with some of their celebrity friends so see what plant-friendly resolutions they are making—and that we might be able to draw inspiration from. Included on the list is the pioneer of alternative medicine, Deepak Chopra.

Chopra reminds us that though action-able steps are a big part of shifting your year to a greener place, changing your perception is just as important. He says,

The best thing you can do for the planet is to shift your perception. There is no hope of healing the planet as long as the word 'environment' means something separate from you. Each of us has built our happiness on ignoring the Earth's balance. We wouldn't do that to our own homes: who would tolerate a living room filled with decaying garbage? We wouldn't do that to our own bodies: who would deprive their body of half the oxygen it needed? So, forget that you ever heard the word 'environment.’ Instead, think of ‘my world’, and look upon Nature as ‘my body’ in extended form. Having done that, treat the world with care and intimate regard. This should be your guide to a new way of being happy. Until millions of people have made the same shift, saving the planet will remain a worthy cause that never quite gains the whole-hearted support it needs.
