Stephen Colbert is an entertaining source of Copenhagen news

Just don't take him literally. In the clip below, Stephen Colbert turns his expertly honed, braggadocio-laden satire towards global warming. Of course, he opens the segment by declaring that climate change is nothing but a hoax. But he doesn't stop there--his screed goes on to cover the hacked climate email non-scandal and the upcoming international talks in Copenhagen.
Along the way, he skewers Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity, for (ridiculously) claiming that Barack Obama is going to cede the sovereignty of the United States by negotiating a treaty that will reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions around the world. And best of all, the video actually turns out to be educational--his guest is professor Dan Esty, who was a part of the drafting process at the Kyoto Protocol.
Here, he explains briefly what's at stake in Copenhagen, why we shouldn't pay attention to climate change deniers who are yapping about 'ClimateGate," and why mitigating global warming should be an urgent priority. Who knew a late night comedy show starring a faux-conservative loudmouth could be so educational?

Esty is absolutely right--it was big news when Obama announced that he was indeed going to attend the climate conference. And we should be supporting him every step of the way. If we're going to successfully fight climate change, it's going to need to be a global effort. And the US should take the lead in negotiating, simple as that.
