A small protest at Boulder's Valmont coal-fired power plant had a surprise visitor on Tuesday: Bill McKibben joined about a dozen people who gathered to demand the plant be shut down.
The Daily Camera reports that the protesters, who carried signs saying things like: "Our Power, Our Future, Our Choice" and "Coal Kills," were calling for "the city of Boulder to continue working on a new franchise agreement with Xcel Energy that would guarantee a larger percentage of renewable energy for the city."
McKibben apparently told the group more actions just like theirs were needed around the world. "Our leaders are not doing the job, and at some level, we have to do it for them," McKibben told Camera reporter Laura Snider. "Keep this up, and keep the pressure on. It's starting to work, slowly but surely."
