Did you just move into a new place and want to make use of all those pricey cardboard boxes? If you're bored with recycling the cardboard, check out my five easy reuses.
- Make a shoe rug. If you don't want all your guests tracking dirt through your new pad, you probably planned to go out and purchase a fancy pants rug. Save a little rent money by taking some material from your local fabric store and covering a couple of your flattened boxes. Direct company to plop their clogs on your handmade creation instead of dirtying up your digs.
- Create some sassy wall art. Cardboard is a great starter material for wall art. Cut boxes into different shapes and sizes. Use as a tracing device to created flat painted art on your walls or bond to walls directly for a textured look.
- Use for under bed storage slider. Hiding shoes and luggage under your bed is a great use of space, but can sometimes create an accessibility issue. Punch two good sized holes to the sides of a large piece of cardboard then tie each end of sturdy string through the holes. Slide the board under your bed loaded with all your goodies. When you want to access granny's hand-me-down suitcase again, just pull your string handle. Your stuff will magically appear without you scrounging under the bed with the dust bunnies.
- Jazz up boxes for year round storage. Who says you can't use those boxes to store items year round. Of course, you'll want to make them just as sassy as those expensive bins you might purchase at a mall. Feel free to paint boxes or apply colorful fabrics to transform your cardboard storage from an eye sore to décor.
- Make an office dartboard. Fold up a few boxes and affix a picture of your boss or some other evil villain in your life. Round up the gang for some afternoon dart throwing in the break room. Be sure to appoint a look out if your boss is in the building. Also, if some of your office chums are athletically challenged, you may want to post some boards around the periphery of your bull's eye. The extra precaution could keep the walls in good condition.
