If you are renovating your pad and have a pile of leftover ceiling tiles, don’t distress. I’ve got five great ways for you to turn your tiles into treasures.

  1. Custom design some floor mats. No, they weren't originally meant for the floor, but who cares? With a little paint and some creative thinking, you can find a great space to place your new floor tiles. Use the tiles to jazz up low traffic areas and closet floors since these creations are definitely more fragile than traditional flooring options.

  2. Soundproof your studio. If you live in an apartment with thin walls, this tip is just for you. Affix ceiling tiles to the common walls of your apartment to create great sound insulation. Your neighbors will happily chip in to help with the construction if it means hearing less of your old Michael Jackson albums.

  3. Make your very own bulletin board. Post an old ceiling tile in a strategic location and use it to keep all your reminders, grocery lists, and important phone numbers in one place. Throw in a few pictures to make your homemade board even homier.

  4. Matte your photos. If you’re thinking about hanging pictures or posters around your place, old ceiling tiles may be just the thing to set off your design. Resizing tiles and affixing photos to the smooth side can be a cost effective way to mount unframed art.

  5. Build a box. Connect six same-sized tiles to make decorative storage boxes. Add paint and other trimmings to spiff up your ceiling tile storage cubes. Using them gives your knick knacks a great home, but most importantly gives you a clutter free home.
