This was such a cool house because it had such a wide range of materials for sale. From antique to modern, I knew it would appeal to a wide spectrum of buyers. One thing about working in the city, suburbanites tend to hesitate going to the "big city" because there'll be no parking. Hate to say it, but to some degree they're right. I think I even got a parking ticket that day. It's not really that bad, it's just a little more challenging than parking in say, a corn field. Compounding my pre-auction nerves, it happened to be on a day when there is an enormous air show and the weather was perfect for the show. They were expecting millions to come out. Yes, millions.
"Take public transportation," was the battle cry of the newscasters on every channel. Super. The fact that it was also 5000 degrees Fahrenheit didn't help..But just when you think you're going down in flames, someone hands you a bucket of water. People actually showed, bid and were in general delightful. We got some newbies who I believe now are certified Murco junkies. There's nothing that tops that first deal high. This was a fun auction, in a drippy, funky sort of way. The next day I was able to sell the kitchen (which was really bothering me) to some buyers who are among the nicest I've ever worked with. All in all, it was all good!
At the end of the day, I even managed to score a ticket into Discovery's Military Tent for the perfect vantage to watch the show. I also got an opportunity to ogle some of the real live flyboys in the tent. I've got to say, there's not many men who can look sexy in jumpsuits. (A pilot can rock a jump suit like nobody's beeswax!). However after a day of fierce negotiations, incessant sweating, and hair that made me look certifiably insane, my chances of enticing a few good men were about as good as my 401k magically reappearing. I went home, took a well deserved cool shower and laughed out the day with my pals.
All in, all done, all right!
