Auctions are extremely dynamic. That's what I love about them. That's what I hate about them. They can switch on a dime, great bidding one moment, great begging the next. Some auction days, you're the bird, and some auction days you're the statue. You're either standing shiny doing your statue thing and people are saying "Wow, look at that shiny statue," or a bird with extreme gastronomic distress and with nary a Sham Wow in sight.

My daughters have worked with me since, well pretty much their entire lives. Indentured servitude is such a harsh word...I prefer, well, indentured servitude pretty much sums it up. But man oh man, was it great training for them. These girls know how to get things done in the working world.

This tired house right on Lake Michigan was not an ideal Murco project. I know what my buyers are looking for and for the most part is wasn't here. Neither were my buyers.

When I walked into this tiny but mighty house, I knew the pickings were slim, but then again, what was here deserved a second chance. It's wasn't top of the line stuff, but it was only a few years old and would represent an improvement to how my buyers currently lived.

Ok Follow me here: Think Tony Orlando and Dawn. "Bannock 3 times on the ceiling if you want me, twice on the pipe, (clink, clink) if you ain't gonna show..." Oh my, sweetness! Sing with me, everyone! I'm talking about our auction in Bannockburn, IL in the dead of winter.

This fireproof house was on a double lot and had only one bathroom which was UPSTAIRS! Because it was built to be fireproof, certain constrictions made renovation prohibitive. But actually, the double lot is the main reason we're holding the auction. The lot was being split into 2 lots by a local developer.

I know, I know, you can't believe that this house was coming down. I couldn't believe it either. But, since it was, I was determined to do it justice. This caliber of home is not typical, not by a long shot, of the normal auction. It was such a privilege to be able to redirect these phenomenal materials. It was hard core auctioning all day, without interruption. It was so much fun because for once, there was very little begging on my part, which is so rare for me!

This was such a cool house because it had such a wide range of materials for sale. From antique to modern, I knew it would appeal to a wide spectrum of buyers. One thing about working in the city, suburbanites tend to hesitate going to the "big city" because there'll be no parking. Hate to say it, but to some degree they're right. I think I even got a parking ticket that day. It's not really that bad, it's just a little more challenging than parking in say, a corn field.
