When I walked into this tiny but mighty house, I knew the pickings were slim, but then again, what was here deserved a second chance. It's wasn't top of the line stuff, but it was only a few years old and would represent an improvement to how my buyers currently lived.
You know the old movie quote "If you build it, they will come" Well in Murcos' Field of Dreams "If you Un-build it, they will come." Generally, that is the case. Every once in a while, attendance freakishly evaporates and that, my friend, is an auctioneers nightmare. In this business, you've got to play with the market in front of you.
When there's lots of bidding bodies, it can be a lot of fun. When there's not, it can just be funny... in a pathetic sad, clown sort of way. Three bidders and a guy whose weeping does not an auction make, but we made the best of it. The Frat guys and the Bulgarians made out like bandits and we did our job to the best of our ability with the market at hand. Another day, we'll have another house, with another market, and another chance to make a difference.
