READ MORE ABOUT:
The group is on the seventh leg of the experiment, and they are in the worst shape yet. Though spirits are low, they discover something during the trek to the next shelter that brings a smile to all of their faces: a worn trail. Not only does it provide them with easier hiking conditions—it also means that they could be getting nearer to civilization. After hiking the trail for several hours, the reality of the situation sinks in. The trail leads nowhere and if they want a roof over their heads they must veer off the trail and follow the map to the next shelter.
To make matters worse, upon arriving at the shelter the group was hoping to find provisions left for them, but there are none. Without any supplemental food sources left for them at the cabin, the group must work even harder to secure the nourishment they'll need to survive. Each member of the group is struggling to stay healthy, but things are especially bad for Carolyn. With every day that passes, her will to survive is slipping away. The team does their best to rally around her in order to keep her from quitting the experiment.
Knowing that the group is on the verge of starvation, Trish takes it upon herself to go out and bring back some food. The mission produces a duck, a spruce grouse, and a squirrel. To mark her success, Trish does what any proud hunter would do, she mounts the heads of her kills on a shelf by the front door.
The food is helpful, but it simply isn't enough to sustain all five people for very long. Soon all the food is gone and only their sharp hunger pains remain. The team is edging closer to depression, temperatures are dropping, and they are beginning to doubt that they will ever make it out of the wild.
