The long journey out of the wild continues, and only five volunteers remain in the experiment. Everyone is suffering the effects of weakened immune systems caused by exposure to the brutal elements and too little food. As a result, they decide to get an incredibly late start on their way to the sixth shelter.
While battling their way through a dense thicket of alders, Carolyn Yamazki notices a porcupine high up in a tree. Always desperate for food, the group makes a snap decision to kill the animal and field dress it right there on the spot. Skinning the animal takes time, a luxury they can't afford due to their late departure from camp. Daylight is fading fast and the group still has to cross the largest river they've faced yet. This is a feat too dangerous to attempt in the dark. Exhausted, and with only 20 minutes of daylight left to spare, the group eventually makes it to camp six.
The porcupine meat will definitely help with the group's growing hunger, but they still need more. Master hunting guide Billy Fitzgerald, who led the group on a hunt at their last camp, returns to give the group one last chance to bag a bear. Winter is closing in on the group, and they must act fast to get a bear before they all go into hibernation. Jake Nodar and John Ulmer head off on the overnight hunt with Billy, leaving the three women back at camp. While the men are away, the women take the opportunity to bathe for the first time in almost three weeks.
With only a small amount of porcupine meat left, Kim and Carolyn decide to try their hand at fishing the river by the camp. But even with a boost of energy from salmon they catch, Carolyn Yamazaki is slipping closer to the edge of depression. The ruthless conditions of life in the wild is taking its toll both physically and psychologically.
