Alaska has whittled the group down to eight. Not wanting to waste any time, the rest of the team presses on. During this second leg of the journey they get their first taste of what an Alaskan snowstorm is like. The weather moves in fast and, in order to protect themselves from the elements, the group constructs a crude makeshift shelter. The night is long and cold, and by the time morning rolls around two more members have had enough of the wilderness and summon the rescue chopper.

A third of the original team has already fallen victim to Alaska, but the rest of the group continues the trek and eventually they find the second shelter. They are beginning to learn what needs to be done in order to survive. The severe lack of food is on everyone's mind and a concentrated effort is made to find something to eat.

A hunting party heads out in search of game using the small caliber rifle provided as part of the experiment. Luck is on their side and Jake and Trish are each able to shoot a small rodent. They barely have time to collect their kills when they spot a huge grizzly bear off in the distance. It is a stark reminder that out in Alaska, humans are not at the top of the food chain.
