In one episode of Wa$ted!, we meet the Hutchinsons. Glynis has good intentions to make her household eco-friendly but doesn't know where to start. Howie, on the other hand, is not so concerned and would rather take convenience over conservation. "I'm not worried about the planet much," Howard says. He thinks the planet will work itself out eventually.

This is completely irritating to his wife, who has made several efforts to green up their house. Her latest project was to install fluorescent bulbs to save electricity, but Howie hated the change to the lighting. Although Glynis recycles, Howard is considerably more lax. "When the bin is full, the rest goes in the trash," a secret he admits to Glynis' shock and dismay.

The couple gardens and even bought a compost unit, but they don't know how to use it, so it just sits in the backyard. Howard loves his new boat, which resides on a canal near their house. However, the boat is a gas guzzler, so even though they limit their transportation to work, their boat is increasing their ecological footprint exponentially. "If it's not convenient, than it's not going to become a lifestyle," says Howard. Glynis wants the Wa$ted! crew to teach him a lesson, but it turns out Glynis could learn a few new tricks as well.
