On Earth Day this year I was invited to be the Emcee of Los Angeles Earth Day Celebration and got to right in the middle of something really exciting. The City of Los Angeles was announcing a partnership with Recycle Bank. If you haven't heard about Recycle Bank, check it out, over a million households in the USA and UK are using this program where they receive money and or credits at stores they are already shopping at for recycling. What I love about it, is that it makes a direct link where you see a financial incentive to save valuable resource from entering the waste stream.

RecycleBank partners include Pharmavite which makes Nature Nade Vitamins, Vons, and lots of local stores in each area they operate in. In my neighborhood it happens to be big companies like Whole Foods, and my neighborhood book store: Skylight Books.

I only mention the names of these companies because I think it's important to let corporations know that environmentally conscious consumers like us want to support them.

Here?s a picture of me with super amazing Ally Maize, the founder of GYM, Green Youth Movement at the ceremony. Ally and her friends aren?t just texting each other about guys, they?re texting each other about what action they?ll be taking next to improve our world.

It fits with my new initiative and my second viewers WA$TED challenge of the new season.

Here's my new idea: lets take the next step beyond the 3 R's: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, what I'm calling: Annabelle's three A's: Accessibility, Affordability and Actionability.

Accessibility:are you able to make it easier for your school, workplace or neighborhood to reduce their footprint? Let's each find ways to make it easy to do the right thing. Of course, don't do what I do and go through people's garbage at dinner parties, you'll get a lot fewer invitations! That's why I support Recycle Bank, what's more accessible than your own blue bin.

Affordability- let's implement change that save money. Favorite tip of the week if you haven't heard it already: switch over to Century Gothic font, it uses 30 percent less ink than standard fonts, so you and your organization will spend less money on ink and we'll all save on the chemicals it takes to produce and carbon output for transporting the ink around the world. This article is using Century Gothic, it?s nice, right?

Actionability: ok it's not a word but it should be. The people I really want to reach are the ones who aren't reading this blog, so let's try and find ways to get people involved in small increments. Remember that old shampoo commercial : And they tell two friends, and they tell two friends.

Start small and if we each tell two friends, we'll have everyone on board. That's what I'm aiming for on WA$TED. What about you? Share your ideas right here.
