Global warming is producing cool innovation. Some really cool things are happening around the world in response to climate changes and the desire to use our resources more efficiently.

This year on Wa$ted! we gave ourselves new challenges and asked the households we worked up to, as Emeril says, "kick it up a notch." I think it's very much a sign of the tough economic times that everyone we worked with was really interested in implementing strategies that were both eco-friendly and money saving, and our contributors took us up on more challenges than last season.

There's no shame in being wrong, right? Recently, on the appearance I made on CBS Early Show with the Zeller family, I reminded their teenage son Nick that all the cool girls have gone green and he really should find new girls to date if the ones he knows right now are impressed by the family SUV. I misspoke.

I'm so happy to have this place to write about this episode as we had so many issues that came up that I have learned much about since we shot the show. First of all, it's a very exciting time in the Green Product world, numerous companies are pushing for more transparency in labeling so that in the future when you see the labels "all natural ingredients" or eco-friendly on cleaning products- this will actually have some standardization. Frankly, I find it confusing, but Treehugger has been a good source of info on what the best products are.

We gave Dean and James numerous options on the composting question. For many people, having an apartment composter won't seem like a practical solution. When I lived in NYC, I lived in an apartment so small that you could lie in bed, answer the door, fry and egg all at the same time, so that wouldn't have worked for me. However, James and DEan really wanted to compost at home, although we did give them a choice, right down the street from James and Dean is a community garden which accepts compost, so if this is something you want to explore, check out your local resources, help may be avail, and if there isn't one, this is a great community builder too.

Greetings and welcome to my Wa$ted Blog. I am thrilled to bring you WA$TED where I was able to give 10 households an experience much like my own. I also explored the idea of vegetable oil, I would love to drive and smell like a French fry, but my family insisted I wasn't responsible enough to prepare for long journey...
