Everyday, it seems, there is a new report that suggests the earth is warming at an even faster rate than previously thought. From thawing tundra in Siberia to cleaving glaciers in Antarctica, the signs are clear and foreboding. The a movement to curb the onset of global warming and climate change is gaining ground but post proposed approaches revolve around a strategy of limiting emissions. What if there was something we could do that would actively cool the earth, or at least remove carbon we have pumped into the atmosphere?
The scientists featured in the BBC's special Five Ways To Save The World believe that such an approach is exactly what is necessary. Moreover, they believe they have found a means of accomplishing such a task. Five Ways To Save The World highlights five innovative theories that sound like they came out of a science fiction novel. For these scientists, they are not only scientific fact, but unique visions for saving our planet.
The methods include launching sulfur into the atmosphere, building a fleet of yachts that could pump seawater into the clouds, constructing an orbiting sunshield to deflect the sun's rays, stimulating plankton in the oceans to process more carbon, and building machines that could capture carbon.
This exciting, cutting-edge, science may be the way of the future. Get all the background information on these theories by watching Five Ways To Save The World on Planet Green, airing Sunday, June 14 at 10 PM.
