READ MORE ABOUT:
Living with Ed follows Ed Begley, Jr., and his wife, Rachelle, as they green their home, family, and celebrity friends. But if you've ever wondered what kind of advice they'd give the rest of us, then the Ask Ed forum is your chance to find out. Readers submit questions and comments about the show, green living, etc., and Ed chimes in with his green answers; here, we've rounded up some highlights of the past week.
Q. Do you know the efficiency rating of your solar panels? Is it over 15%? Do you know of PV products in development that may be approaching higher levels, ie 40%?
A. Here are some comparison charts:

Mine are in the 14% range.
I think we'll see efficiency rise as new technologies are developed, but I haven't personally tested anything but traditional PV in the standard ranges.

Q. I have watched your show frequently, but have not seen your laundry room or a clothesline....do you hang your laundry out to dry?
A. Yes—we use wooden drying racks that we can put out in the backyard and then fold up and move back inside. We've used them for years and continue to do so.

Q. I was just curious what qualities people look for when choosing an eco-friendly paint.
A. Zero-VOC is first for me. With our last painting project, we used EcoShield from Dunn Edwards and it was quite good. We also used some paints from Sally Fretwell which were also quite good.
