The Indianapolis 500 is going green this year, and there's no reason its spectators can't lead by example. If you're planning to attend the Indy 500 or are going to any live event this year, why not take this opportunity to go green yourself?

For starters, you might want to choose taking a shuttle or public transportation. Those driving to the event can prove green is always sexy by slowing down. Just because Danica is taking turns at 225 MPH doesn't mean you have to forget that your ride can be more eco-friendly. Even better, find yourself a carpool and ride with fellow IndyCar fanatics.

Your food choices can help, too. Bringing a meal from home is never a bad idea. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway allows "personal coolers not larger than 14" by 14" by 14" to be carried into the grounds, and no glass containers are allowed, either, so plan accordingly. Patrons may also bring in small backpacks and/or carry a bag in for food and personal items. All coolers, bags, backpacks and purses are subject to search at the gate." If you opt to buy lunch at the track, bring an extra bag so you can take home the containers your food came in and dispose of them properly. Or, reuse those Styrofoam cups and trays to plant seedlings or to even make crafts with your kids!
