Thanks to the help of companies like these, Greensburg has been able to begin an amazing effort to build a green town from the bottom up, an inspiration to everyone.

General Motors - Chevrolet Division

General Motors is a proud charter sponsor of Discovery's Planet Green network. Our Chevrolet brand is supporting "green" efforts, both by offering the largest selection of hybrid vehicles in the GM fleet and as a proud sponsor of Greensburg. Chevrolet is pleased to be part of the rebuilding of the Greensburg community in the wake of the devastating tornado in May of 2007. Among the many stories featured in the series, the construction of the new environmentally-conscious Dwane Shank Motors Inc. Chevrolet dealership has been documented from concept through construction. This new Chevy dealership will replace the Shank's previous dealership destroyed in the tornado. It has been designed with hopes of attaining LEED certification upon completion. In addition, GM has donated a number of vehicles to both the Greensburg community and local charity. GM provided three Chevrolet E85 FlexFuel Suburbans to the South Central Community Foundation, which the Foundation has allocated for use to the local Greensburg school. Through GM's relationship with Discovery, three Chevrolet Tahoe hybrids and one Silverado FlexFuel pickup were donated to the city administration of Greensburg to help with the clean-up efforts. General Motors and Chevrolet salute the people of Greensburg for their efforts in rebuilding their community and protecting the environment. For more information visit Chevrolet.

When Greensburg was leveled by a deadly tornado, the town's people didn't just lose their homes. They lost their businesses. All of them. Main Street was destroyed, leaving only rubble where once there had been a thriving community. And although residents needed to urgently find new homes, how could they rebuild in Greensburg if there were no jobs to support them? SunChips® learned of the town's plight and their plan to rebuild as a green community—and immediately, we wanted to help. That's because we believe the biggest of changes can come from the smallest of steps. We're taking a step by helping fund the SunChips® Business Incubator, a LEED platinum business center which will house 10 local businesses and revive the heartbeat of Greensburg's business community. While helping the town to get back to business in an eco-friendly way may seem like a small step, we believe Greensburg can be an example to the world that sustainable business can work. clorox

Clorox

For Clorox, helping rebuild Greensburg's school is a project that feels close to home. Since 1980, the company has donated more than $70 million to support education, youth development and cultural and civic vitality. When the tornado ripped through Greensburg, it leveled everything in its path including the schoolhouse, which had stood its ground for more than 80 years. School in Greensburg now is a collection of mobile units clustered around a temporary quad. But not for long. "We are so humbled and amazed by the spirit of this community," said Katie Hagan, Clorox director of sustainability. "Many schools just rebuild after a disaster, Greensburg is transforming the idea of what a school facility can be." The goal for the school is LEED Platinum, with wind turbines for power and cisterns for rainwater collection on the outside and a media center and distance learning center on the inside. In addition to a direct grant to the rebuilding, Clorox also is supplying donations of its namesake bleach, its new line of GreenWorks natural cleaning products and Brita® water filtration systems and Nalgene FilterforGood™ bottles to every family in Greensburg.
