READ MORE ABOUT:
There’s no doubt about it, the goats are breadwinners at the Beekman. The famous Beekman Blaak cheese is made of 60% goat’s milk, and the goat milk soap made famous by Martha Stewart is dependent upon the bleating barn-dwellers.
Though much of the Beekman livelihood depends on the goats, they’ve come a long way in the eyes of the boys. Josh always had a soft spot for the herd. Before Josh and Brent considered welcoming a menagerie of animals to the farm, Farmer John wrote a letter to the boys, asking if the estate needed a caretaker. Along with the job inquiry, John offered to bring the goats to live on the estate, not wanting to sell his beloved girls at auction since they had no home. Josh fell in love when he saw photos of John’s newest goats, Darla and Dana. Though Josh might have been convinced, Brent was a bit more stubborn.
Josh welcomed the goats and Farmer John into the barn without telling Brent, who was upset until he witnessed the birth of newborn goats early one morning. From then on, it was history – the goats were family.
Though he might have been wrong in thinking the goats were more trouble than they were worth, Brent was right about one thing: goats are a lot of work. Josh originally thought their share of responsibility would be occasional goat-petting on the weekends, but Brent knew it would be a full-time job for everyone.
In this episode of The Fabulous Beekman Boys premiering Wednesday, July 28 at 9/8c, Josh and Brent have to look after the goats by themselves while Farmer John has surgery. The feisty girls give the boys a run for their money, and when something goes wrong during a goat birth, the boys’ responsibility grows even more.
