Hey all you Planet Green inhabitants. My name is Evette Ríos, and I am so glad to be a part of the G Word, and so glad to join all of you here online. On the G Word, I will be hosting a series of segments about salvage in which I scour the streets of my hometown NYC, looking for trash that can be turned into treasure. Sounds glamorous, right?

When I told my friends and family that I got this gig, no one was surprised... seriously. They all know by now that as a kid, my parents' refrain when I would say that I wanted a particular cool outfit or cleverly designed whatever was, "Eso lo puedes hacer," or in English, "You can make that!" No need to spend y(our) hard earned cash on that ...Empowering now, but as a kid, endlessly frustrating, as you can imagine.

So, I come from a long line of re-thinkers, re-designers, re-purposers, not just because we cared about waste, or because we are all crazy packrats (arguable I am sure), but because we couldn't afford to squander.

Here is what I hope to do with this lovely little piece of web real estate:

  1. Spread the good word that re-use can be cool, and much more fun than just tossing stuff into a recycling bin, and

  2. Profile folks like many of you out there that are thinking way out of the bin when it comes to trash already.

So, lets talk Salvage, or any other topic on your minds. I would love to field your questions, and learn about your clever ideas, even the ones that you maybe had a couple of spills with, or stalled in the conceptual phase. 90% of my hair-brained schemes are tougher than expected!
