The August 23, 2008, episode of Focus Earth features a special focus on the dangers faced by the world's oceans. From the effects of carbon emissions on wildlife to the ongoing crusade of one famous family, the image that emerges is one of the ocean's in peril.
First, Bill Blakemore explains how carbon emissions are polluting the oceans. He shows that excessive carbon not only harms the Earth's atmosphere but, when absorbed into the ocean, hurts marine life as well. His research reveals the severity of the problem and presents several things that can be done to help.
Then, Bob Woodruff interviews Philippe Cousteau, grandson of famed ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau, about the state of the seas. He discusses how, through EarthEcho International, he is continuing his grandfather's crusade to help preserve the oceans and marine life. His ultimate goal, he explains, is to help create responsible stewards of the ocean that can carry on this important work into the future.
