Global warming and climate change will be two of the most pressing issues facing the new Barack Obama administration when he takes office on January 20, 2009. Seeing as climate change has far reaching effects that touch the economies of countries around the world and the health of nearly every person on the planet, this focus is logical. But it is not only politicians, policy makers, economists, and environmental scientists that are taking arms against global warming. A new generation of eco-avengers is starting early, doing what they can to raise awareness and affect change.
One group leading this crusade calls themselves the "Inconvenient Youth." Taking their name from Al Gore's famous lecture, the group works to train young people to give a youth-centered version of that famous presentation.
By utilizing teen-friendly technology like text messaging, online social networking, and internet registrations and campaigns, the group has been able to grow rapidly and set up presentations across the United States. The group's goal, to "inspire and motivate young people to rally their peers and hometown communities to fight climate change," is a noble one and their energy and methods stand as an example for climate activists of any age.
