This week, Focus Earth covers the latest green news from Washington, including the suggestion of a cap and trade deal by President Barack Obama, the testimony of scientists to Congress, and Michelle Obama's latest visit to the EPA. Meanwhile, a NASA satellite intended to monitor carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere crashed and new reports show renewable energy companies floundering amidst economic downturn.

First, Focus Earth provides an analysis of President Barack Obama's address to a joint session of Congress. During his speech he reiterated his belief that helping the environment and pursuing clean energy would be integral to solving the country's economic problems. During this discussion, Obama reintroduced the idea of a cap and trade deal, which had previously been delayed due to economic uncertainty.

Despite these encouraging remarks from the president, several renewable energy companies have had to slow or stop building due to economic problems. Bianna Golodryga reports on this unsettling trend.

In other news, scientists present new research to Congress indicating a definitive trend of global warming, Michelle Obama visits the EPA to discuss the importance of the agency during this period of environment uncertainty, and a NASA satellite intended to measure levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere crashed into the ocean.

Then, Jeffrey Kofman reports from the mountains of Mexico, where monarch butterflies make a yearly journey. Now, their southern habitat is threatened by deforestation and conservationists are struggling to find something that can be done to slow the destruction.

Finally, Bob Woodruff reports from family vacation to the Galapagos Islands where, in the same place Charles Darwin made his discovery, his children learn to love science.
