This week, the Focus Earth team reported from southern Pakistan, where a massive earthquake caused widespread destruction; China, where new reports name that country and the United States as the world's biggest polluters; and Siberia, where global warming has confused a migratory swan. Then, in the United States, Bob Woodruff interviewed the presidential candidate's top energy advisers and the Focus Earth team followed the debris left behind on the campaign trail.

First, we heard the latest report from southeastern Pakistan. A magnitude 6.5 earthquake devastated the mountainous region and Focus Earth was there to document the survivor's stories. Meanwhile, China issued a new statement on emissions. A government official warned that his country's greenhouse gas emissions are equal to those of the United States and that the two nations are the largest polluters in the world.

While China was been analyzing emissions, scientists discovered a new greenhouse gas. For the first time, researchers have measured nitrogen trifluoride and some believe it is a larger contributor to global warming than carbon dioxide. This comes as bad news to the Siberian Swan, whose migratory patterns have been disrupted by rising temperatures making it the latest victim of climate change.

In the United States, gas prices have fallen considerably. A combination of a radical drop in oil prices, reduced driving, and concerns over the economy have led to as much as a 20 cent decrease in parts of the country, the largest price drop in history. Despite this relief at the pump, energy policy remains a problem and one of the most important issues in the upcoming election. After taking a look at the problems waiting for the next president, Bob Woodruff sat down with top energy advisers for the candidates to get the details on their energy policies.

Finally, the Focus Earth team took a look at the tail of the campaign trail and the impact the presidential race may have on the environment. With only one day left before the election, everyone seems to be posting signs, wearing t-shirts and pins, and passing out fliers, but what happens to these things after November 4? Find out what can and can't be recycled in this special report.
