Get the latest information on eco-politics, natural disasters, economics, and the Super Bowl with reports from around the country and the world, this week on Focus Earth.
First, Focus Earth takes a look at a green week in Washington. President Barack Obama introduced plans to revive the economy, combat climate change, and shift the United States to clean and renewable energy sources. The proposals were bolstered by the appointment of Todd Stern as the special envoy for climate change, a new position that the administration hopes will help lead their charge against global warming. Obama's economic package got support from Nobel Laureate Al Gore, who testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the need to take immediate action to combat climate change.
While politics in Washington were turning green, the North East was turning gray and white as an ice storm passed over the region. The storm caused several deaths and left millions of people without power.
Bianna Golodryga reports from Davos, Switzerland, where the World Economic Forum brought together business and political leaders from around the world. Under the shadow of the negative news of economic crisis, with billions lost and thousands of jobs cut, the attendees worked to propose viable solutions that would consider energy and the environment.
Despite worsening economic reports, many are still optimistically looking for new jobs, many in newly developing green industries. Lisa Fletcher takes a closer look at these job seekers and their prospects while Bob Woodruff hosts a roundtable discussion on the transition from the blue collar to the green.
Finally, Focus Earth investigates the preparations for a sustainable Super Bowl to be held on Sunday, February 1.
