The only thing missing from the show Emeril Green is the dishwashing. I wish it was missing at my house after cooking every meal! However, dishwashing is something many of us do three times a day.
Is it better for the environment to hand wash or use a dishwasher? TreeHugger says dishwashing is the way to go by using half the energy and one-sixth of the water. Ecojoe seems to think hand-washing wins the debate unless you are a restaurant or doing a huge load of dishes consuming a great deal of water. Care2 shows dishwashers winning if using a modern, energy-saving dishwasher.
TreeHugger features several ways to green your dishwasher. Three popular green tips for using a dishwasher include:
1. Scrape food and empty liquids from dishes, but don’t prerinse.
2. Run the dishwasher when it is full instead of several small loads (this tip can also be used when washing clothes).
3. Read the dishwasher manual and choose the energy-saving options.
So what are you waiting for? Go green while getting your dishes clean!
