America's favorite food is pizza. We call out for it in a pinch, grab a slice on our lunch breaks, and crave it in the middle of the night. I've got a friend who has a real passion for pizza but is absolutely dumbfounded when it comes to dough. Let's see if I can help her stretch things out to make the perfect pie. My friend Samantha is a gifted baker—breads, cookies, cakes, pies—you name it, she can bake it. The only thing she just can't seem to master is pizza dough.

TIPS:

  • Try whole wheat flour for your pizza doughs. It's healthier than bleached flour and adds great texture.

  • Using cornmeal on your pizza peel or baking sheet is a simple but effective way to ensure that your pizza will slide off easily.
