It's easy to stock a pantry well, but cooking delicious meals from it isn't always easy. Rice, pasta, and olive oil can all be transformed with a pinch of imagination and a dash of inspiration. My friend Marilyn is looking for some simple, tasty and healthy meals that she can make from everyday pantry items. She enjoys cooking but ends up eating out more often than not because she can't make heads or tails of what's at home. Today, I'm going to show her some classic New Orleans favorites that will become staple dishes for her table.

TIPS:

  • Buy items that you use everyday in bulk—not only will you save money but you'll reduce your carbon footprint!

  • To extend the life of items like olive oil, vinegar and spices, store them in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and heat.
