Cooking with your kids is a fun way to involve them in food preparation and teach them valuable lessons about nutrition. Having your kids help to prepare meals also allows them to feel independent and gives them a sense of responsibility in the kitchen. Tonight, Chef Emeril meets Bobette, a working mom with two daughters. The girls love to help their mom with dinner, but Bobette is hoping her daughters can get started on dinner prep while she's still at work. And Chef Emeril has planned a meal that can be prepped early and enjoyed when Mom gets home.
TIPS:
- Safety scissors are a great way to involve kids of all ages in mealtime prep work.
- Use different colored cutting boards for prep work of different proteins. For example, blue for fish, red for meat, etc.
- You can also assign a color to each of your kids and they'll always have a designated cutting board for their kitchen work.
