The world has been fascinated by the mystery of ancient Egypt for as long as the Pyramids have existed. It was the first great civilization on the planet, home to some of the most famous rulers in history, who left a profound legacy that inspires millions all over the world to this day. But the sun which now rises over the ruins of ancient Egypt illuminates a starkly different modern nation that has rarely been explored.
For the first time, Atlas: Egypt Revealed will take viewers on an epic journey across the centuries, from the land of the Pharaohs, into the living soul of modern Egypt. It will travel from the rugged beauty of the Sahara desert to the languid waters of the Nile, explore the Islamic heart of a nation where the roots of Christianity still run deep, and take the modern pulse of the country on the bustling streets of Africa's biggest city, Cairo. Occupying the land bridge between Africa and Asia, 21st century Egypt is the political and cultural epicenter of the Middle East. And the country is also at a crossroads of its own. Today 80 million modern Egyptians are emerging from the shadow of the pyramids and a sense of timelessness, to build a modern nation worthy of their glorious past.
