It's only been one week and the group is down to six. Faced with a long arduous trek in whiteout conditions, the group eventually drops down in elevation and arrives at a small moss-covered cabin tucked in a river valley.

Food has been extremely difficult to come by thus far on the journey, and immediately the group recognizes that they are desperate for some fat and protein. They hatch a plan and establish two hunting parties. The first group hunts in the morning with the small caliber rifle and the other group takes the afternoon shift. After spending several hours, and hiking many miles, the first group returns to camp empty-handed and full of despair. They can't continue to exert themselves in this manner if they have any hope of making it back to civilization.

Luckily, the second hunting party has more success and is able to bring back two small game birds for dinner. It is the first real meal the group has had in days but they soon realize it is not nearly enough to keep them going. Another hunting party is quickly organized, and this time a large porcupine is spotted, targeted, and killed. An overjoyed team returns to camp with the kill and sets about skinning the prickly creature.

But even that is not enough to sustain Police Officer Dan Rac. His body has been giving out on him for days and he is on the verge of quitting the experiment. The team rallies around him, and in the end, not wanting to let the group down, he decides to push on.
