As mentioned, World Ocean’s Day is just around the bend—June 8. And to celebrate, Oceana, Planet Green’s salt-water savvy, non-profit partner, is asking us to do one (or all!) of three simple things to support the world’s seas on this all-important day:

  1. Vote for your favorite ocean hero. Oceana whittled down eight extraordinary finalists who are making a difference by drawing attention to various sea issues from shark education to coral reef conservation, sea turtle activism and more. Now it’s our turn to pick the winner and choose who will win prizes and the respect and admiration of the ocean conservation community. Hurry! Voting ends May 30.

  2. Urge President Obama to protect the oceans. Sure, he has a ton on his plate but we can do our part to keep the seas in his line of sight. By writing to Obama, we’ll stand a better chance of fighting mercury pollutionbycatchoverfishing and ocean acidification.

  3. Make a sea statement. Oceana recently partnered up with the apparel company Nautica, who has created cute and stylish Wavemaker rope bracelets. Buy a pack of ten for $10 and distribute out to friends and family. Slip on on your wrist on World Ocean's Day and beyond to wear your sea love on your sleeve.
