You think things would've changed for the better since the 1970's when early environmentalists were heard shouting, "Save the Whales!" That was when tens of thousands of whales were being illegally killed each year for commercial purposes.

Think again: In the 1980's the International Whaling Commission (IWC) placed a moratorium on whaling but despite this and other ramped up efforts from political figures, celebrities, and citizen activists-the sad and downright inhumane practice of whaling lives on. To this day, whales are still being slaughtered for whale meat, for use in pet foods and other covert purposes. Criminal countries include Japan, Norway and Iceland.

Though the plight to save whales seems impossible to win without some serious political and economic support from our government, there are individual heroes out there waging war against whaling. One on the leading crusaders is Captain Paul Watson, the Founder and Director of Sea Shepherd, a conservation society who since 1981 has been on a mission to end illegal whaling operations on an international scale.

Captain Watson and his Sea Shepherd crew are so impassioned about their cause and undertake such extreme efforts, that Animal Planet created an entire 7-part, hour long weekly series covering the team's noble—and often life-threatening—work.

Tune in on November 7 to follow the Captain and his dedicated crew of volunteers as they work tirelessly in high risk environments and embark on intense voyages to stop whaling. Need to see it to believe it? Check out the slideshow pictured here to get a taste of what to expect from Captain Watson and his crew.

The Captain's wonderful work has inspired several celebrities to join the cause including the Dalai Lama, Sean Penn, Martin Sheen and Pierce Brosnan among others.
