Staycationing is a new-fangled term for taking a vacation where you live. It's an eco-friendly idea that invites vacationers to get creative and stay home while they travel. How can you stay home while you travel? Here are four ways.

  1. The New England Aquarium
I recently took a staycation to the New England Aquarium to the New England Aquarium. I'm a big fan of marine life. As a kid, I was scared of fish and sea creatures. In fact, I wouldn't even set foot in the ocean. As an adult, I am still a cowardly fellow, but that childhood fear has turned into curiosity. The aquarium tour is fun and informative. They even have a seal that talks with a Boston accent.

  2. San Francisco Puppy Watching
I don't know about you guys, but I've been watching these San Francisco-based puppies on and off for the last few weeks. I've hardly gotten any work done. Instead of sneaking peeks at work, grab a loved one, open a bottle of wine, enjoy the puppies and some light conversation.

  3. Visit the Institute and Museum of the History of Science
Located in Florence, Italy, this institute has plenty to offer to staycationers. It has comprehensive information about all your favorite Italian inventors and scientists: Da Vinci, Galileo and more. It even has a wide variety of 3D models that an online staycationer can interact with. Check out this robot.

  4. A Good Book
Not every staycation has to take place on the internet. You can curl up with a good book and journey to exotic alien worlds or to Victorian-era England.  Books are affordable. Used books are better for the environment than new ones, simply because reusing something is usually a bit greener than buying something new. Compared to the amount of resources it takes to travel by plane or by car, reading a book is an eco-friendly way to travel.
