Stay at a Green Inn

If hotels just aren't eco-friendly enough for your tastes, try staying at an inn.

Although hotels are becoming more green all of the time, eco-friendly places to stay while traveling are still harder to come by than they should be. Of course there are ways in which you can always green your own hotel stay (reuse your towels, bring your own cups, etc.), but why not stay somewhere a little more eco-friendly off the bat if you can?

My advice to you: Stay at an inn. I've found that there are many more eco-friendly inns than there are hotels. It makes sense, right? Inns tend to be smaller with innkeepers that have more control over the policies of their inn than managers of a hotel do.

I recently just stayed at a lovely inn in Washington DC (which I encourage you to check out should you be in the area, DC Inns). They supplied their in-house breakfast with locally grown organic eggs, fruits, breads, etc. They replaced all of the toilets in their end with low-flow toilets. They don't have a television in any room of their inn.

My point? Inns often have more choices when it comes down to eco-friendly practices. Before you jump into booking a hotel, make sure you do some research and make sure there isn't a greener option for your stay by way of an inn.

Find an eco-friendly inn!
